The impending visit by French President Emmanuel Macron to India in early 2018 is likely to progress the possible sale of at least three additional DCNS Scorpene diesel-electric attack submarines (SSKs) to the Indian Navy (IN) to augment its declining underwater assets, official sources have told Jane’s.
Macron was scheduled to visit India for the first time in December to attend the International Solar Alliance (ISA) summit, which has been postponed to early 2018. The French president’s schedule is being mutually worked out and will be announced soon, officials said. In India, Macron will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials that could include Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
